How does Discscan know how a disc flies?

Every disc has four flight numbers on the stamp — speed, glide, turn and fade. They describe the flight for a player who throws just hard enough for that disc. Discscan uses them together with how far you throw, so the curve shows how the disc flies for you. A fast driver in a newer player's hand often fades early and lands short; the app shows that instead of the pro curve.

The curve is a guide, not a promise. Wind, the angle you release at and the plastic all change a real throw. Log a few of your own throws on a disc, and the app adjusts its curve to match them.

Setting how far you throw

Everything in the app depends on this number. Set it under your throw settings, or tap Measure to measure a throw with GPS: mark where you throw from, walk to the disc and mark it. GPS on a phone is accurate to a few metres, so measure two or three throws if you can.

Choosing a disc from a tee sign

In Which Disc?, tap Use a Tee Sign and take a photo of the hole map. The app reads the distance from the sign; then trace the fairway with your finger from the tee to the basket. It suggests a disc from your bag, the angle to throw it at and how hard.

Location and camera

The camera is used to read the stamp on a disc and the map on a tee sign. Your location is used only while you measure a throw. If you said no and want to change your mind, it is in the iPhone's own Settings, under Discscan.

Does it cost anything?

No. Discscan is free, with no advertising and nothing to buy.

A disc is missing or wrong

If a disc is missing, or its numbers are wrong, tell me which one and I will fix it in the next update.
